The thesis literature review is about surveying the RESEARCH in the field and identifying where mine fits in.
2. The current literature review I have is actually a discourse analysis where I am finding, through the literature, the major influences, themes, and opportunities in the field. This is in fact a research method in itself.
3. What I currently call the theoretical princples is also a literature review in the same way as 2. and both of these inform my research through analysis and interpretivist methodology.
4. The methodology needed to be broadened to include both these areas, as well as self reflection and deep thought. I must consider what the overall overview of the methods I am using are and I then must find the correct language to describe them.
5. My (currently titled) literature review and theoretical principles inform my choices of models as well as the creation of instruments in which to analyse, understand and approach my research. The adaptation of the Continuum models as a methodology model is one of these instruments.
6. I must include what tools I used whether they be conceptual (models, theory), actual (blogs, software) or my own thought processes (thinking, reflecting)

I realised that I did not actually answer the ques...

I realised that I did not actually answer the question, "Why aren't Archives writing about this stuff or the use of this stuff." I think the answer lies in what I wrote after that, but explicitly I believe that Archival institutions that are integrated into a information system with a library, are often taking a back seat to library policy, where all the writing occurs. However, take for example our very own NLA. They write some stuff as staff papers, which are then posted on their site, they also contribute to conference papers and even write a UNESCO document or two, but rarely, that I have seen, publish in journals. Again, I may be wrong about this.

Another thing I noticed about Mary's very structured thesis - that the literature review contained almost exclusively American publications and that it was very positivist in its outcome driven methodology. The literature review provided a survey of the background, rather than a place in the methodology itself. Her methodology construct meant for that to happen, rather than any interpretivist mix it all in together kinda approach.

I am very grateful for having read this thesis as it has spurred me on to create something really original and thoughtful. Now if I could just write it down. Only if I could get marked on blog posting.

This is beautiful!
